Chapter Fourteen

Levi

‡

As I woke the next morning it took me a moment to realize I wasn’t still dreaming, and Katie was actually naked and cuddled to me—snoring. So damn adorable I don’t know how long I soaked in the sight of her.

We’d done what I told myself could never happen and somehow the world hadn’t ended. A flush ran up my neck and my cock swelled as memories of how good being with her had been. Did I think she could do better than me? Yes. But I was no longer worried I couldn’t remain faithful to her. Whatever this was—it was entirely different than anything I’d ever experienced. When she’d asked me to stop sleeping with other women, I’d thought it would be difficult. It hadn’t been.

Staying away from Katie . . . now that had been a hell I’d only survived by releasing my frustration on Bradford when we’d sparred. I’d been angry with Ollie for not considering me good enough for Katie and angry with myself for making a promise to Ollie I wasn’t sure I could keep.

Looks like I’m going to Boston soon. This wasn’t the kind of thing I could hide or tell my best friend over the phone. He’ll be angry, but he’ll get over it.

I hope.

I slid my arm out from beneath Katie, trying not to wake her, but her eyes fluttered open. “Hey,” I said before giving in to the temptation to kiss her softly.

She smiled against my lips. “Morning.”

I could have stayed there, smiling back at her forever. “You snore,” I teased.

She brought a hand to her mouth in horror. “I do not.” The move sent the covers sliding off her, revealing an even more enticing view.

I cupped one of her breasts and bent my head to kiss the tip of it. “It’s adorable, just like the rest of you.”

I caught pleasure flashing in her eyes when I raised my gaze to meet hers. She said, “You don’t look freaked out that it’s morning and I’m still here.”

“I’m not.”

She shifted to sit up, so I did as well. We stared into each other’s eyes for a long moment before she whispered, “No matter how you feel this morning, I don’t regret a moment of last night. I want you to know that. I also don’t want you to feel pressured to—”

“Stop.” Reaching out for her hand, I laced my fingers through hers. “I’m no hero and certainly no saint, but you matter to me. What we did last night matters.”

She searched my face. “What comes next?”

I didn’t know how to be less than honest with her, so I didn’t even try. “I don’t know, but together we’ll figure it out.”

Her fingers tightened on mine. “I like that.”

My stomach rumbled, reminding me that I hadn’t eaten since lunch the day before. “Go back to sleep for a bit. I’ll make breakfast and bring you some.”

She smiled and caressed my chest with her free hand. “Breakfast in bed? Are you a romantic?”

“Only with you.
